Effective-field-theory predictions of the muon-deuteron capture rate

We quantify the theoretical uncertainties of chiral effective-field-theory predictions of the muon-deuteron capture rate. Theoretical error estimates of this low-energy process is important for a reliable interpretation of forthcoming experimental results by the MuSun collaboration. Specifically, we estimate the three dominant sources of uncertainties that impact theoretical calculations of this rate: those resulting from uncertainties in the pool of fit data used to constrain the coupling constants in the nuclear interaction, those due to the truncation of the effective field theory, and those due to uncertainties in the axial radius of the nucleon. Coupling Systems for a New Type of Phase Synchronization

Using the usual phase in plane, we propose a general method to design coupling between systems that will exhibit phase synchronization. Numerical results are shown for Lorenz systems. Phase synchronization and antiphase synchronization are equally probable depending on initial conditions. A new network with Lorenz phase synchronized system is obtained.
Anomalous Coulomb matrix elements in thef7/2shell
2003
γ decays from high-spin states in the N=Z-1 nucleus 2753Co26 have been identified for the first time. Level energies and Coulomb energy differences between these states and their analogs in its mirror nucleus 53Fe have been compared with large-scale pf shell-model calculations, which offer excellent agreement. New information has been obtained on two-proton Coulomb matrix elements needed in the interpretation. These have been extracted from the data via a number of methods and are shown to exhibit an anomalous behavior for the J=2 coupling.

Anti-Hypotensive Treatment and Endothelin Blockade Synergistically Antagonize Exercise Fatigue in Rats under Simulated High Altitude

Rapid ascent to high altitude causes illness and fatigue, and there is a demand for effective acute treatments to alleviate such effects. We hypothesized that increased oxygen delivery to the tissue using a combination of a hypertensive agent and an endothelin receptor A antagonist drugs would limit exercise-induced fatigue at simulated high altitude. Our data showed that the combination of 0.1 mg/kg ambrisentan with either 20 mg/kg ephedrine or 10 mg/kg methylphenidate significantly improved exercise duration in rats at simulated altitude of 4,267 m, whereas the individual compounds did not. Concerning the role of everyday discourses on disability in the realiza- tion of disability policy, this qualitative study focuses on the problematic meanings of disability and of being disabled in 45 fictional texts about a disabled woman and man (21/24) written by non-disabled graduate students and welfare professionals. The traditional individualising un- derstanding of disability was dominant in the discourses of the texts, especially in those about the disabled women which also repeated oth- ering discourses. Effects of high-pressure on the structural, vibrational, and electronic properties of monazite-type PbCrO4

We have performed an experimental study of the crystal structure, lattice dynamics, and optical properties of PbCrO 4 (the mineral crocoite) at ambient and high pressures. In particular, the crystal structure, Raman-active phonons, and electronic band gap have been accurately determined. X-ray-diffraction, Raman, and optical absorption experiments have allowed us also to completely characterize two pressure-induced structural phase transitions. The first transition is from a monoclinic structure to another monoclinic structure. Response properties with explicitly correlated coupled-cluster methods using a Slater-type correlation factor and cusp conditions

The recently proposed extension of the explicitly correlated coupled-cluster ansatz using cusp conditions [A. Kohn, J. Chem. Phys. 130, 104104 (2009)] is tested for suitability in the calculation of response properties. For this purpose, static and dynamic electrical properties up to ESHG hyperpolarizabilities as well as optical rotations have been computed within the CCSD(F12) model. It is shown that effectively converged correlation contributions can reliably be obtained using augmented quadruple zeta basis sets already.
